Authorities discovered a British national dead in her home in Choiseul, Choiseul District, St. Lucia, Aug. 6. Officials are treating the incident as a homicide. No motivation for the killing is immediately apparent, but authorities are currently investigating the case.
Choiseul is approximately 25 km (16 miles) south of Castries.
Context
St. Lucia's murder rate has sharply risen in recent years to 40 per 100,000 people, one of the highest in the Americas. Gang violence and drug trafficking drives much of this violence. Murder cases are not frequently solved in St. Lucia.
