Police remain engaged in an active standoff in Clinton County, Ohio, during the afternoon of Aug. 11, after cornering an armed suspect who had attempted to breach the FBI's Cincinnati office earlier in the day. While officers and the gunman exchanged shots as the perpetrator fled the scene, there have as yet been no reports of casualties.

As of 14:00 Aug. 11, Interstate 71 is closed in both directions between state routes (SR) 73 and 68 in Clinton County. SR 73 is closed between Mitchell Road and SR 380, with SR 380 being cordoned off between SR 73 and Brimstone Road. Authorities have also issued a lockdown order for all buildings within a 1.6-km (1-mile) radius around the intersection of Smith and Center roads near the town of Kingman.

Significant transport disruptions could continue in the affected area for several hours after the standoff ends as police ensure the area is completely secure.

Exercise caution in or near the impacted area in the coming hours; avoid the scene of the police operation until authorities have secured the area and given the all-clear. Consider alternative driving routes, especially if traveling between the cities of Cincinnati and Columbus. Heed all instructions from security personnel.
