Teachers and other education workers affiliated with multiple organizations and unions plan to hold protests in multiple locations throughout Venezuela Aug. 11, to demand salary increases and benefit they allege are owed to them by national authorities. The largest demonstration is likely to occur in Caracas, where activists intend to gather outside the Ministry of Education starting at 09:00.

Other confirmed protest locations are the following:

  • La Asuncion, Nueva Esparta: Plaza de la Juventud, 08:30

  • Barquisimeto, Lara: March from Plaza los Ilustres to Zona Educativa, 09:00

  • Maracay, Aragua: Plaza Bicentenaria, 08:30

  • Maturin, Monagas: Plaza del Estudiante, 09:00

  • San Felipe, Yaracuy: Plaza Bolivar, 09:00

Protests are likely in other cities, in main plazas, and near government offices. Hundreds are likely to participate in each of these demonstrations. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near protest areas. Widespread violence is unlikely.
