Further protests are likely in Beni, North Kivu Province, in the near term following a protest in the area Sept. 21. Activists from the LUCHA youth group, launched a peaceful demonstration to denounce the ongoing insecurity in eastern DRC. At least 21 people were reportedly arrested.

Should further protests materialize, security forces are likely to deploy to monitor and manage the gatherings. Clashes are possible if protesters ignore police orders to disperse. Any further demonstrations could cause localized ground travel disruptions.

Context

Violence attributed to various armed groups, including CODECO, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), and the M23, has persisted over the past year despite the implementation of a State of Siege in eastern North Kivu and Ituri provinces. Further protests by activists denouncing the continuing insecurity are possible.
