French Polynesia: Unionized civil aviation workers to stop work territorywide from 00:01 Sept. 30

Civil aviation worker union to strike in French Polynesia from 00:01 Sept. 30. Flight disruptions possible.

Warning

Event

The Federation of Polynesian Administration Agents (FRAAP) has called for an indefinite territory-wide strike from 00:01 Sept. 30. Organizers are making several demands, including improved work conditions and financial audits. Significant disruptions are unlikely due to the non-participation of other labor unions. However, limited flight disruptions remain possible, including at Faa'a International Airport (PPT). Services such as firefighting may be especially affected. The action may be called off at short notice if negotiations with government officials succeed.

Strike participants could hold protests, mainly near airports across the territory or government offices in Papeete. Any rallies that occur will likely remain small. Increased security deployment and localized transport disruptions are possible, particularly at demonstrations near PPT.

Advice

Confirm flight schedules for the duration of the strike. Plan for possible flight disruptions; do not check out of accommodations until ensuring onward travel. Exercise caution near protests. Check local media or seek updated information from local contacts on protest activity at the airport, as actions could occur unannounced. Allow additional time to reach airports.
