Event

Security forces have fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters in Santragacchi and at Howrah Bridge. The BJP had been holding a protest march to the state government office (Nabanna) to demand that the leaders of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress party take responsibility for their alleged corruption. Police have reportedly closed several roads in the area to stop protesters from marching. A police officer has been injured in the clashes.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain increased security until the protest dissipates. Additional clashes between protesters and police are possible. Localized transport disruptions are likely until the protest ends.
