Iraq: Protests ongoing in Nasiriyah Sept. 21

College graduates are protesting in several locations in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, including along the Al-Zaytoun bridge, as of the morning of Sept. 21. Protesters have reportedly blocked traffic along the bridge with burning debris. The purpose of the action is to demand more employment opportunities.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture in the protest area until the situation stabilizes. Localized transport disruptions are likely through at least late Sept. 21. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible over the coming hours. Further related protests are possible in the coming days.
