Italy: Aircraft crew from Ryanair and Vueling plan to strike in Italy, Oct. 1

Pilots and flight attendants from Ryanair and Vueling plan to strike in Italy, Oct. 1. Flight cancellations and delays.

Warning

Event

Pilots and flight attendants from Ryanair (FR) and Vueling (VY) airlines plan to strike across Italy, Oct. 1, in support of improved pay and working conditions. The labor unions Filt-Cgil and Uiltrasporti are also protesting the recent redundancies of some of their members. Ryanair staff will strike 00:01-23:59; Vueling staff will strike 13:00-17:00.

It is not known how many flights and airport services will be affected. The Italian civil aviation agency ENAC announced that flights are guaranteed, even during strike action, during 07:00-10:00 and 18:00-21:00. Unless averted, a degree of flight cancellations and delays are likely. Protests by unions and staff cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Confirm flights if traveling by air to and from Italy, Oct. 1. Expect some flight delays and cancellations. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed; follow local travel and security advice. Allow extra time for arriving, checking-in and security checks at Italian airports.
