Informational

Event

Authorities are responding to a fire at a plastic processing factory east-southeast of the Yoshioka Liquor Store in the Fukuda area of Iwata District, Shizuoka Prefecture, early Sept. 15. The cause of the fire remains unclear. No casualties have been reported. Reports indicate localized power outages are ongoing and the fire likely spread to three surrounding structures.

Localized transport disruptions will probably continue for hours after investigations conclude and responders depart the scene. Road travel delays are possible in areas affected by power outages due to possible nonfunctional or malfunctioning traffic lights. Trains may also experience delays if outages impact signaling devices or overhead wires.

Advice

Avoid the area until the situation stabilizes and authorities give the all-clear. Heed all official transport and security instructions, including any evacuation orders. Plan for road travel delays due to possible malfunctioning or nonfunctional traffic lights in affected areas. Consider remaining indoors if smoke is heavy, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
