Burkina Faso: Civil society group calls for gathering in Ouagadougou Oct. 15

Le Balais Citoyen civil society group has called for a gathering at Thomas Sankara Memorial in Ouagadougou from 15:00, Oct. 15. Participants will gather to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the killing of former leader Thomas Sankara who was assassinated on Oct. 15, 1987.

Although the event is likely to pass off peacefully, a heightened security presence is likely near the memorial, Oct. 15. Localized business and transportation disruptions are possible. Violence is not likely.

Avoid all gatherings as a precaution. Heed all instructions issued by local authorities. Depart the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
