Heightened security likely, transport disruptions and protests possible in N'Djamena, Chad, through Oct. 10 amid political ceremonies.

Warning

Event

Heightened security is likely and transport disruptions are possible in N'Djamena through Oct. 10 in connection with political events scheduled at the capital's Palais du 15 Janvier. The closing ceremonies of the Inclusive and Sovereign National Dialogue (DNIS) are scheduled 10:00 Oct. 8; the inauguration of Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno as transitional president is slated for Oct. 10. French authorities have issued an advisory recommending that travelers avoid the vicinity of the Palais du 15 Janvier amid the political ceremonies due to the possibility of related traffic disruptions.

Anti-government protest activity is possible in N'Djamena ahead of and during the ceremonies. Security forces may attempt to forcibly disperse any demonstrations that materialize; clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the political ceremonies and any related demonstrations as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the ceremonies and any associated transport disruptions. If violence breaks out, immediately depart the area and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and your home government.
