Germany: Climate activists staging roadblock protests in Berlin Oct. 19

The environmental activist group Letzte Generation is staging a series of short-notice roadblock protests in Berlin Oct. 19. The group is demanding the government take greater action to address climate change. Activists are currently blocking traffic on the A100 Highway, Torstrasse, and Landsberger Allee; further actions on additional routes in central Berlin are possible through Oct. 19.

Additional police are deployed to all protest sites. The actions themselves and related security measures are prompting traffic disruptions in the surrounding areas. Traffic delays are likely on affected routes until activists are dispersed; congestion is likely on surrounding routes. While protesters are unlikely to act violently, security services may resort to forceful methods to disperse protests; additionally, scuffles with frustrated motorists are possible.
