New Zealand: Service disruptions to continue on Auckland Western Line through at least Oct. 16

Rail disruptions to continue on the Western Line in Auckland, New Zealand, through at least Oct. 16. Consider alternative transport.

Informational

Event

Service disruptions will likely continue on the Western Line in Auckland through at least Oct. 16 after KiwiRail officials discovered a potential subsidence issue on a portion of the track. Auckland Transport has reduced service on the line between Swanson and Britomart, with trains between Swanson and New Lynn experiencing longer time between trains. Passengers traveling to and from the city must also transfer trains at New Lynn Station.

On Oct. 16, KiwiRail will halt all service between Avondale and Swanson stations for emergency inspections. Authorities will provide alternative bus services between the affected stations. Service between Britomart and Avondale will follow regular schedules for the day.

Service disruptions could prompt increased demand for alternative transport, including buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services, especially during rush hours. Increased traffic congestion near affected portions of the line, as these commuters may use private vehicles for travel.

Advice

Confirm service status before using the Western Line. Plan for increased congestion on roadways and alternative transport. Allow extra time to reach destinations.
