Activists affiliated with the Citizens' Network for Childhood and Adolescence (Red Ciudadana por la Ninez y Adolescencia) plan to hold a march in Asuncion Oct. 20, to oppose an education reform bill. Demonstrators are gathering at Plaza de la Democracia, as of 09:00, and from there march to the National Congress.
Hundreds, perhaps thousands, may participate in the demonstrations, which is likely to cause transport disruptions in downtown Asuncion. Heightened security near government buildings is also likely. Widespread violence is not likely.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating in Asuncion early Oct. 20.
