Authorities are responding to a shooting incident at a childcare center in Uthai Sawan Subdistrict, Na Klang District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province as of the afternoon Oct. 6. Reports indicate that at least 20 people died in the shooting; the death toll may rise. The motive of the shooting is not immediately clear and the suspect remains at large.

Officials will almost certainly maintain heightened security measures, including deploying additional personnel, at and around the incident site and in Uthai Sawan Subdistrict through Oct. 6 as they search for the suspect. Localized transport and business disruptions may occur.

Uthai Sawan Subdistrict is approximately 70 km (43 miles) southwest of Udon Thani.
