Uruguay: University professors to protest, strike in Montevideo Oct. 19
Unionized university professors to hold a protest and a 24-hour strike in Montevideo, Uruguay, Oct. 19.

University professors affiliated with the Professorial Association of the University of the Republic (Asociacion Docente de la Universidad de la Republica, ADUR), and other university workers, plan to hold a 24-hour strike and related protest march in Montevideo on Oct. 19 to demand higher salaries and more investment in public education. Activists plan to gather outside the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), starting at 10:30. They will then march to the Executive Tower (Torre Ejecutiva), where the offices of the presidency are located.
Thousands may participate in the demonstration, with associated transport disruptions in downtown Montevideo. Heightened security is likely around government offices.
