Venezuela: University workers to hold a protest march in Caracas Oct. 26

Unionized university workers, including members of the Workers Association of the Central University of Venezuela (Asociacion de Trabajadores de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, SINTRAUCV), plan to hold a march in Caracas Oct. 26. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand the national government to pay workers the annual bonuses they allege are owed to them since April. Activists intend to gather in Parque Carabobo, starting at 09:30, and march to the Ministry of University Education offices in downtown Caracas.

Hundreds are likely to participate in the protest, prompting transport disruptions. Heightened security around the government offices is also likely.
