Event

As of Nov. 5, power outages caused by an earlier storm that damaged the electrical grid continue to affect much of south and central British Columbia, including Vancouver. According to BC Hydro, approximately 78,000 customers were without electricity at around 12:30 Nov. 5. The utility has said that its repair works would continue throughout the day and that service to some customers would likely remain disrupted into Nov. 6.

Charge mobile and communications devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Plan for road travel delays due to possible malfunctioning or nonfunctional traffic lights in affected areas. Exercise caution when driving in the impacted areas. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel equipment where necessary. Identify business-critical functions that require a power supply.
