Chad: Protests over cost of living possible nationwide into at least mid-November
Activist group threatens cost-of-living protests in Chad starting Nov. 10. Heightened security, localized traffic disruptions possible.
Event
Leaders of the group Chadian Collective Against the Cost of Living (CTVC) have threatened to mobilize and begin staging protests if the government fails to take action by Nov. 10 to control the country's cost of living. Organizers have as yet released no time or location details concerning specific demonstrations; however, such gatherings could occur at any point over the coming days. Although the CTVC has also called upon other civil society organizations to mobilize in solidarity, it remains unclear how many participants the organization's events may draw. The move comes despite an existing government-imposed ban on protest activity.
Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that materialize. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Heed all instructions issued by local authorities.
