Informational

Event

Authorities are responding to the discovery of a WWII-era bomb in Kaarst Nov. 21. The device was discovered during construction work in the Buttgen area. Authorities have imposed an approximate 1,000-meter (3,280-foot) security cordon around the device to facilitate the disposal operation.

No traffic is permitted within the security cordon and all individuals must evacuate or remain indoors. Public transport services normally routed through the area will be canceled or diverted; the S8, RE4, and RE13 rail services are disrupted in the Buttgen area. Increased traffic congestion is likely in the surrounding area as drivers seek alternative routes. Authorities have not provided an estimate for when the security cordon will be lifted.

Advice

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Check public transport schedules and local traffic conditions for disruptions before travel; plan alternative routes if necessary and allow additional time for travel.
