Warning

Event

The Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) has called off sit-ins outside the Meghalaya State Secretariat building in Shillong, Nov. 4 and 7. Organizers had planned the events to demand job reservations for locals in public and private sectors. HNYM leaders canceled the demonstrations after government officials scheduled talks Nov. 8. Fresh protests may occur if negotiations fail, mainly in the Police Bazar area despite an ongoing ban on unauthorized public gatherings of over four people. Popular rally sites include other government buildings, major intersections, political party offices, and public squares.

Advice

Monitor trusted local media for updates on fresh protests, as organizers may not announce them in advance. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
