Warning

Event

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS, or National Volunteer Organization) plans to hold protest marches and rallies across Tamil Nadu State Nov. 6 to mobilize greater political support. RSS activists are not legally permitted to rally at Arumanai, Coimbatore, Mettupalayam, Nagercoil, Palladam, and Pollachi. Although organizers have not yet revealed specific timing and location details, participants are likely to gather, especially near prominent government buildings, political party offices, public squares, monuments, and thoroughfares. Larger gatherings may be well attended.

Authorities will almost certainly monitor any demonstrations and may attempt to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out. Supporters of rival groups may hold counterprotests, possibly resulting in incidents of violence. Localized transport disruptions are likely near the marches routes and/or if activists block roadways.

Advice

Avoid all RSS-related gatherings and possible counterdemonstrations due to the possible threat of violence. If violence erupts nearby, depart the area immediately and seek shelter at a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow additional travel time near gatherings. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
