Kenya: Kenya Airways pilots to strike from Nov. 5

Kenya Airways pilots to strike from Nov. 5. Airport and flight disruptions likely in Kenya.

Warning

Event

The Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) has announced that KALPA-aligned Kenya Airways (KQ) pilots would go on strike from 06:00, Nov. 5. KALPA has indicated that there will be no KQ flights departing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). KQ serves various domestic and international destinations. The strike is in response to an ongoing dispute with the management over working conditions, including pension contributions. The duration of the strike remains unclear.

The work stoppage will almost certainly prompt significant flight disruptions. Disruptions may continue in the hours after the end of the strike as Kenya Airways repositions aircraft and works through any passenger backlog. Increased demand for alternative flights is likely.

Advice

Confirm flights if scheduled to fly with Kenya Airways in the coming days. Make alternative travel arrangements where necessary. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Maintain flexible schedules and arrive at the airport early to allow additional time for processing.
