Mexico: Feminists marching in downtown Mexico City Nov. 7

Feminists march in central Mexico City, Mexico, Nov. 7. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Feminist activists are staging a protest march in downtown Mexico City on Nov. 7. The purpose of the action is to demand justice for the recent femicide of Ariadna Fernanda in Morelos. Participants assembled at the Monument to the Revolution before marching to the Mexico City Attorney General's Office. The march has caused transport disruptions along the marching route.

Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence nearby as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to disperse crowds forcibly. Localized business disruptions are likely.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. Seek alternate routes to circumvent related transport disruptions. Do not attempt to cross protester-erected roadblocks; wait for the police to dismantle them before proceeding. Allow additional time to reach destinations near potential protest locations. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
