Mexico: National Civic Front to march in downtown Mexico City Nov. 13

Activists from the National Civic Front (Frente Civico Nacional) plan to march in downtown Mexico City on Nov. 13. The purpose of the action is to denounce the proposed electoral reform by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO), allegedly aimed at dissolving the National Electoral Institute (INE). Participants will gather at 10:30 at the Angel of Independence before marching toward the Benito Juarez Hemicycle. Thousands are expected to participate.

Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence nearby as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities attempt to forcibly disperse crowds. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a safe, nongovernmental building. Seek alternative routes to circumvent related transport disruptions and allow additional time to reach destinations.
