Qatar: FIFA 2022 World Cup matches to take place Nov. 25
Qatar hosting FIFA 2022 World Cup matches Nov. 25. Increased security, transport, and business disruptions likely.
Event
Qatar is to host four FIFA 2022 World Cup matches nationwide Nov. 25. The following matches are scheduled to take place at the following locations and times:
Al Rayyan: Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Wales vs. Iran, kick-off (KO) 13:00
Doha: Al Thumama Stadium, Qatar vs. Senegal, KO 16:00
Doha: Khalifa International Stadium, Netherlands vs. Ecuador, KO 19:00
Al Khor: Al Bayt Stadium, England vs. USA, KO 22:00
Heightened security measures around the World Cup matches, including security cordons and an increased number of travelers, will likely prompt localized travel and business disruptions in the vicinity of stadiums hosting games.
In addition, football hooliganism is possible around venues where matches are played. While alcohol will not be sold inside or around the perimeter of stadiums, consumption of alcohol in the lead-up to football matches, particularly in areas where alcohol is sold such as fan zones, could increase the likelihood of confrontations around stadiums.
Moreover, individuals displaying objects and clothing that are perceived as "political" could be briefly detained. In recent days, Qatari security forces have stopped and asked individuals to remove rainbow shirts and other clothing items due to their association with the LGBTQ+ community.
Advice
Plan on localized transit disruptions. Comply with directives from authorities. Do not display signs of LGBTQ+ affiliation; refrain from engaging in politically or socially sensitive conversations.
