Authorities are responding to the discovery of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in Herzogstrasse, Essen, Dec. 12. Authorities have established a security zone of 250 meters (0.15 miles) and have evacuated residents and a hospital. In a further zone of between 250 meters and 500 meters (0.15-0.3 miles), residents are advised to stay indoors during the disposal operation.

The security cordon will likely cause disruptions to road travel, and local bus and rail services. It is not clear how long the disposal operations will last. Lingering disruptions are likely as officials conclude operations and traffic returns to normal.
