Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility Dec. 18 for killing at least nine Federal Police personnel in a complex attack near Shalal Matar, Kirkuk Governorate. At least two other police personnel were reportedly wounded in the assault.

Officials may deploy an increased security presence and implement heightened security measures in the area in response to the attack. Security force operations could include additional checkpoints and patrols. Similar attacks remain possible over the coming days.
