Nigeria: Airlines warn Dec. 20 over impending flight disruptions amid year-end celebrations

Airlines warn Dec. 20 over impending flight disruptions amid year-end celebrations in Nigeria.

Warning

Event

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), which encompasses the nation's largest air carriers, warned Dec. 20 over impending flight disruptions, including delays and cancelations, during the year-end celebrations due to the lack of availability and elevated cost of aviation fuel, known as Jet A1. It is unclear which airlines are specifically affected and whether international routes will be impacted.

Widespread flight disruptions would leave travelers in Nigeria with extremely limited options for domestic travel. Alternative modes of transportation, such as trains and road travel, present additional security challenges compared to air travel.

Advice

Monitor local media for updates. Contact airlines to reconfirm flights; book alternate travel arrangements as soon as possible. Confirm the status of routes before road travel and avoid travel at night.
