South Korea: Various activist groups plan to rally in Seoul Dec. 3

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that various rallies would occur in Seoul Dec. 3. Demonstrations will take place in front of DongHwa Dutyfree store and Sungnyemun Gate. Other groups also plan to march to the Bank of Korea, Jonggak, Sejong-ro, and Daehanmun. Political parties, such as the Democratic Party of Korea and People Power Party, intend to rally outside Yeouido Kookmin Bank in the morning before marching to several locations in Yeouido, including Yeouido Park and Uisadang-daero. Thousands of people could attend the events.

Police will likely deploy officers to monitor protests. Localized transport disruptions are probable near protest sites, especially if activists block and/or march along roadways; roadblocks are possible if significant rallies occur. Localized business disruptions could occur near gathering venues. Officials have advised the public to use public transport in downtown Seoul due to likely traffic congestion along various roads, such as Sejong-daero. Violence is unlikely, though minor skirmishes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, especially if participants attempt to gather in unauthorized areas or attempt to breach security cordons.

Avoid any gatherings as a precaution. Plan for localized transport and possible business disruptions near sites where demonstrations materialize. If violence erupts nearby, immediately depart the area and seek shelter at a safe nongovernment building. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
