Fighting between rival communities left at least 56 people dead and 17 others injured in Gumuruk County, Greater Pibor Administrative Area, Dec. 24-26. According to local officials, the fighting erupted after a youth group from Jonglei State launched an attack, burning several houses and stealing cattle. Gumuruk County is located approximately 360 km (224 miles) north of Juba.

A heightened security presence is likely in the area over the coming days. Further attacks are possible in the region over the near term.
