Authorities have warned of an increased threat from landslides in the Manjakamiadana, Ambohidempona, and Faravohitra areas of Antananarivo due to the ongoing rainy season, as of Jan. 4. Evacuation orders have reportedly been issued to some 10,000 inhabitants, with relocation centers established in Mahamasina. Landslides have reportedly claimed 15 lives since 2015.

Authorities could issue further evacuation orders outside of the affected areas in the coming weeks. Landslides and other rain-related impacts could include road closures and disruptions to power supplies.
