Informational

Event

Utility provider Malian Water Management Company (SOMAGEP-SA) has announced that water service disruptions will occur in several locations across Bamako Jan. 10-16 to allow the company to perform technical upgrades to its system. Areas scheduled to be impacted by the water distribution disruptions include Banankabougou, Dialakorobougou, Faladie Village CAN (Wahood), Kababougou, Kobalakoro, Niamana, N'Tabacoro, Sirakoro, Yirimadio Public Housing (759, 501, 320 and 1008), Tieguenina, and Zrny.

Consequent business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water. The water outages could extend beyond the estimated restoration time.

Advice

Stock up on drinking water and confirm alternative water supplies for business operations if operating in the impacted areas. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes. Water pressure and quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Minimize nonessential water use throughout the outage.
