Event

Unionized taxi drivers, affiliated with several organizations, including the Taxi Drivers' United Front (Frente Unico de Taxistas), plan to hold protests throughout Quintana Roo state Jan. 11 to oppose the arrival of ride-share transport companies into the state.

The main demonstration is likely to take place in Cancun, where activists intend to gather outside the building of Mexico's Judicial Branch (Poder Judicial de la Federacion) along Avenida Andres Quintana Roo, starting at 07:00. Protests in other cities, including Chetumal, and Playa del Carmen are likely, along major avenues and near government offices.

Transport disruptions are likely near the protest areas, as activists could block roads with their vehicles. Limited private transport services are also likely during the protest hours. Heightened security near government offices is likely.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Confirm transportation and allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in Quintana Roo Jan. 11.
