Activists affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) party will hold a sit-in protest outside the chief minister's residence in Karachi Jan. 5 to denounce the government's alleged failure to meet its demand to hold local government elections on Jan. 15. If well attended, the event may attract hundreds of participants.

Authorities will almost certainly increase security near the protest venue and may attempt to disperse the gathering if it becomes overly disruptive. Clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out. Localized transport disruptions are likely, especially if activists march along or block nearby roadways.
