South Sudan to host Pope Francis in Juba Feb. 3-5. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Pope Francis will visit Juba Feb. 3-5. Details of the visit are as follows:

  • Feb. 3: The Pope will land at Juba International Airport (JUB) in the morning, where a welcoming ceremony will be held. He will then meet President Salva Kiir at the Presidential Palace.

  • Feb. 4: The Pope will meet personnel from the South Sudanese church at the Saint Theresa Cathedral. He will then head to the Apolistic Nunciature and the Freedom Hall. He will finally give a speech at the John Garang Mausoleum.

  • Feb. 5: The Pope will hold a public mass at the John Garang Mausoleum.

Increased security is highly likely near sites hosting official events. Tight security is also possible at JUB as the Pope arrives and departs the country. Police will probably temporarily block roads near event sites and routes between stops on the Pope's itinerary. Localized business and transport disruptions are likely.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Plan for localized transport disruptions in Juba Feb. 3-5; allow additional time to reach nearby destinations.
