Taiwan: Provincial Highway 9 in Hualien County likely to remain closed through at least Jan. 15 following damage from landslides

Provincial Highway 9 in Hualien County, Taiwan, to remain closed through at least Jan. 15 due to damage from landslides.

Informational

Event

Portions of Provincial Highway 9 (PH9) in Hualien County are slated to remain closed through at least Jan. 15 after a Jan. 11 landslide damaged a major section of the thoroughfare. Transportation authorities have advised motorists to use the Central Cross-Island Highway and Provincial Highway 7 between 07:00-17:00 daily until repair works are completed; large cargo and passenger vehicles may use South Link Highway. The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) will operate 42 additional train services along the Yilan-Hualien route through Jan. 15. The Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) will also offer supplemental ferry services to ease congestion.

Transport disruptions between northern Taiwan and the affected areas in Hualien County will continue until repairs are complete. Increased congestion is possible on alternative routes. Shipping delays are likely until normal traffic is restored along the damaged section of PH9.

Advice

Plan accordingly for transport delays until normal traffic levels resume on the damaged section of highway. Use recommended alternative routes and modes of transportation.
