Canada: Authorities close Highway 97 in central Kelowna, B.C., evening Feb. 27 due to suspicious object

Highway 97 in central Kelowna, B.C., Canada, closed evening Feb. 27 due to suspicious object. Tight security, transit disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Authorities have closed Highway 97 (Harvey Avenue) between Cooper and Spall roads in central Kelowna, British Columbia, as of evening Feb. 27 due to the presence of a suspicious object. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are deploying a bomb squad to the area to conduct investigations.

The road closure will almost certainly create localized transit disruptions, including to Kelowna International Airport (YLW). Ground transport disruptions to Penticton and the Okanagan Valley are also likely. A heightened security presence and business disruptions in central Kelowna are almost certain. Lingering transit disruptions are likely once police dispose of the device and give the all clear.

Advice

Avoid the area until authorities give the all clear. Comply with the directives of authorities. Plan for transit disruptions if travelling in or through Kelowna. Confirm appointments. Allow extra time to access YLW. Monitor local news sources for further news.
