Police continue to investigate Feb. 6 shooting that left six people dead in Miguel District, Lima, Peru.

Police continue to investigate a shooting that left six people dead outside the Plaza San Miguel mall in San Miguel District, Lima, Feb. 6. According to authorities, the shooting began when a motorcycle with two people intercepted a car carrying the victims at the intersection of Avenida La Marina and Avenida Jose de la Riva Aguero. The two individuals on the motorcycle then fired approximately 30 rounds at the vehicle, killing the four adults and two children inside it.

Police have stated that the shooting was likely a targeted killing and that two of the adult victims, one of whom used an alias and had been threatened previously, had criminal records, suggesting the attack may have been related to organized crime.

An increased police presence and localized transport and business disruptions are likely in the area as authorities conduct investigations.
