Most of the attacks and clashes in the Twic County area are attributed to communities from the Abyei area. The Abyei area has been a source of conflict between Sudan and South Sudan for years due to the discovery of oil which has made the region economically valuable to both countries. Since 2011, tensions in the area have been high, and neighboring communities have regularly clashed with each other over cattle, grazing land, and water.
