Authorities have issued a shelter-in-place for parts of Katy, Texas, in response to a hazmat leak as of Feb. 12. Officials reported the incident began at a 99 Cent Only Store warehouse located on the 23600 block of Colonial Parkway and have advised that the leak contains anhydrous ammonia material that poses an explosive and toxic risk. The cause of the incident is unknown; no casualties have been reported. The shelter-in-place boundary includes Kingsland Boulevard, between Highway 99 and South Mason Road, Mason Road from Kingsland Boulevard north to Mason Creek, Mason Creek from Highway 99 and North Mason Road, and Highway 99 between Kingsland Boulevard and Mason Creek.

A heightened security presence will probably remain in place in the coming hours. Localized transport disruptions are likely; increased traffic congestion will also likely occur in surrounding areas.
