US: Flight disruptions likely at San Diego International Airport in San Diego, California, into at least late Dec. 21 due to low ceilings

Fog prompts flight delays at San Diego International Airport in San Diego, California, US, Dec. 21; lingering flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Flight disruptions will likely affect San Diego International Airport (SAN) in San Diego, California, into at least late Dec. 21 due to low ceilings. Authorities at SAN have asserted that fog has caused flight delays at the facility and advised travelers to check with their respective airlines to ensure their flights are on time. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a related ground delay program at the airport that is slated to remain in effect through at least 17:59; the FAA has canceled a prior ground stop issued for SAN earlier in the day. As of around 10:30, flight departures to SAN were delayed by an average of 113 minutes. The FAA may extend, rescind, or otherwise modify the ground delay program on short notice.

The FAA may also issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for SAN over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear any passenger backlogs.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via SAN. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
