Venezuela: Activists to stage protests in Caracas Feb. 13
Students and unionized workers to stage protests in Caracas, Venezuela, Feb. 13.
Event
Students and unionized workers have called for several demonstrations across Caracas on Feb. 13. Workers plan to gather from 09:00 on Esquina de Salas and will participate in a march from 10:00 starting at the intersection of Avenida Panteon and Avenida Fuerzas Armadas. Student activists also intend to march to the headquarters of the National Electoral Council (Consejo Nacional Electoral, CNE) in Caracas' downtown from 09:00. Protesting workers will demand an increase to the country's minimum wage. Student activists and members of several universities will demand the electoral authorities reopen the voting registry nationwide, focusing on the 2024 presidential elections.
Demonstrators may also gather in other locations across the capital. The gatherings will likely cause transport disruptions throughout central Caracas. Heightened security near government buildings is likely; it is possible security forces will block the demonstrators' access to the city's downtown, increasing the likelihood of clashes.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach your destination, if operating in Caracas Feb. 13. If clashes do occur, leave the area immediately, and seek shelter in a secure location.
