Disruptions are ongoing following a landslide in Merida State as of early Feb. 9. The landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall and has killed at least two people. The Onia Bridge, connecting the Brisas de Onia sector with El Vigia, has collapsed, cutting off access between Tachira and Merida. Reports indicate that the landslide has resulted in serious damage to the surrounding area; four families and three commercial buildings have been evacuated.

Further rainfall could result in flooding and additional landslides. Authorities could issue mandatory evacuation orders for flood-prone communities over the coming days. Disruptions to electricity and telecommunications services are possible where significant flooding or landslides impact utility networks.

Floodwaters and debris flows may render some bridges, rail networks, or roadways impassable, impacting overland travel in and around affected areas. Ponding on road surfaces could cause hazardous driving conditions on regional highways. Authorities could temporarily close some low-lying routes that become inundated by floodwaters.
