Event
Unionized university professors, affiliated with the Federation of Associations of University Professors of Venezuela (Federacion de Asociaciones de Profesores Universitarios de Venezuela, FAPUV), plan to hold a 48-hour nationwide strike Feb. 28-March 1 to demand increased salaries and improved benefits. FAPUV leaders state additional university workers may join the strike.
Associated protests are possible during the labor action, especially near the campuses of the affected institutions and around government offices. University and other public workers launched nationwide protests Feb. 27, with a main rally organized in Caracas, between Plaza Venezuela and the Ministry of Labor.
Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely near any protest that materializes from Feb. 28 through March 1.
