Chad: Fuel shortages likely in areas across country through at least mid-March

Fuel shortages are likely to persist in areas across Chad through at least mid-March. The Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy previously asserted that fuel supplies would return to normal levels by late March 6; however, many petrol stations in N'Djamena and elsewhere in the country have since remained closed, and long lines have been reported at those still in operation.

Additional petrol station closures are possible in the coming days if the shortages continue. Increased demand and long lines are likely at stations still selling fuel; service delays are probable. Fuel shortages may disrupt business operations, public and private transport services, and ground shipping. Locals may demonstrate outside government offices or fuel stations to denounce the shortages. Authorities will likely deploy security personnel to monitor any protests that materialize.

Refuel fleet vehicles when possible. If long-distance travel is unavoidable, ensure fuel tanks are full and carry additional supplies. Do not buy fuel on the black market or from an unauthorized dealer. Ensure fuel supplies for generators; confirm delivery agreements.
