French Guiana: Labor unions to protest in several locations March 15 to oppose pension reform
Labor unions to hold protests in several locations across French Guiana March 15 to oppose pension reform.
Event
Members of several labor organizations, including the Union des Travailleurs Guyanais (Union of Guyanese Workers, UTG) and the Union Nationale des Syndicats Autonomes Guyane (National Alliance of Autonomous Unions, UNSA), plan to hold protests in several locations in French Guiana March 15. The demonstrations will be the latest action in the unions' campaign of opposition to the French government's proposed pension reforms.
Participants will gather at the following roundabouts starting at 06:00:
Crique Fouillee in Cayenne
Route de Suzini in Remire-Montjoly
Rond-Point Cafe in Korou
Rond-Point du Stade in Saint-Laurent
It remains unclear how many participants each of the gatherings may draw. Organizers have not confirmed any plans to block roads around the gathering locations, but such roadblocks are possible. Disruptions near the affected sites are likely, as is heightened security. Clashes are unlikely but cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near demonstration locations on March 15.
