Germany: Unionized healthcare workers strike nationwide, March 15

Unionized healthcare workers striking across Germany, March 15. Health service disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Healthcare workers represented by the United Services Union (Verdi) are striking nationwide on March 15. The union organized the industrial action in support of ongoing wage negotiations. The two-day strike started nationwide on March 14; further strike action is possible on March 16.

It is not known how many healthcare workers will heed the strike action. Emergency and essential services are unlikely to be affected. However, delays and cancellations to primary and routine healthcare are likely. Residual disruptions are possible after the work stoppage concludes as services normalize. Some protests by striking healthcare workers are possible; these will likely occur in major cities at government or healthcare management buildings and outside hospitals.

Advice

Reconfirm healthcare appointments. Avoid any protest action as a routine security procedure.
