Morocco: Unionized workers of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water call for a national strike March 15-16

National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water workers to strike in Morocco March 15-16. Protests possible.

Informational

Event

Unionized workers of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) plan to launch a national strike March 15-16. The purpose of the action is to denounce new legislation that will enable private regional companies to manage the distribution of electricity and drinking water. While organizers have not announced any protests, nationwide demonstrations are possible. These could occur in front of public offices and in public squares.

If protests materialize, localized transport disruptions are possible near demonstrations in urban centers, especially if protesters march along or block roads. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid any possible protests due to the potential for clashes. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near gatherings.
