Nigeria: Bus driver protest and road block ongoing in Rumuokoro area of Port Harcourt, March 13

Bus driver protest and road block ongoing in Rumuokoro area of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, March 13.

Warning

Event

Commercial bus drivers are protesting and erecting roadblocks in Rumuokoro, northern Port Harcourt, March 13. The action is in response to the killing of a fellow bus driver by security forces on March 12. Protestors are reportedly demanding the disbandment of the Rivers State Task Force in retaliation.

Increased security and localized traffic disruptions are likely near protest sites, especially along nearby the A3 and along the Rumuokoro-Rukpokwu road. Access to and from Port Harcourt City Airport (PHG) may be obstructed due to the action. Clashes are likely, notably if participants obstruct travelers' access to the airport or if they refuse to disperse.

Advice

Avoid the area. Avoid any additional protests that materialize to mitigate associated disruptions. As a precaution, allow extra time if traveling to and from PHG, March 13. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
